Spring campaign - We plant 2000 trees

Updated: Sep 15

Spring awakening - Together we want to revive the rainforest.

Spring is here in Paraguay and it's time to start our planting campaign! With the days getting longer and the nights getting milder, it's the perfect time to plant the first trees in the ground and rebuild the rainforest tree by tree.

In the coming weeks, we will be setting off to visit various tree nurseries. Our aim is to find a wide selection of seedlings, which we will plant in organic mixed cultivation on the edge of the existing forest. We are aiming for the largest possible seedlings to encourage them to take root and make them more resistant to pests.

Our reforestation has far-reaching goals:

We want to preserve and expand the positive characteristics of the forest, including reducing soil erosion, promoting microorganism activity, creating microclimate zones, water retention, CO2 storage and the colonization of new animal and plant species. We select specific trees that are typical for this zone and plant them in different sizes and distances, as well as in shady and sunny areas, so that each species gets the optimal location.

The biodiversity in the Atlantic Rainforest is stunning, but many of the once common species are now almost non-existent. This is why the search for suitable seeds and seedlings for the edge zone of the forest is a central part of our work.

For those interested in the tree species of the Atlantic Rainforest, we have provided an insightful article from the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences at the University of Asuncion on our resources page. It is called “Structural analysis of a forest in the Alto Paraná ecoregion, Paraguay”.

We appreciate any support! Every tree counts and brings us one step closer to our goal. To reforest one hectare, we need about 5000 Francs/Euros, which corresponds to about 2000 trees.

Join us and help us to preserve and revitalize the rainforest!

Current events show, that our work is more important than ever. Since a couple days, large areas in the Gran Chaco are burning. So far about 200'000 Hectares of rainforest have burnt down in just a few days. A catastrophe for all the indigenous people that lived there, for nature, for the animals and for the climate. We will dedicate a separate blog about the deforestation in Paraguay and its effects.
